Graham has always said that advertising is a young person's game, so when he hit his late thirties, he had to think fast. Having spent sixteen years working for other companies, on clients as diverse as pet-food and shampoo, it was time to contemplate going it alone. Fortunately, he met Iain and quickly set up shop. It was the excesses of traditional agency practices that had bothered both Graham and Iain, which prompted them to specialise in environmental communications, a then niche sector, helping clients communicate their green credentials in a sustainable way. Graham had always been interested in ecology, and was recycling even before he knew it was called recycling. It was an easy leap to make. And it didn't stop there either.
Not satisfied with an industry that just rewarded creativity through various award schemes, and a lack of awareness for business' that were making positive environmental changes, Graham had an idea that combined the two. The Green Awards were successfully launched in 2006 to high acclaim. The first of their kind, the national ceremony has become a highlight in the 'green' calendar, attended annually by over 500 of the country's most influential 'green' thinkers and motivators in commerce.
You'll find Graham is more and more involved with smart ideas that have a profound effect on a companies social and environmental behaviour, although he still finds time to do the occasional ad now and then. He's never learnt to drive, which used to be a sticking point in the past, but has now become a wonderful low-carbon benefit these days.
